“From
that time many of His disciples went back and walked no more with Him.” (John
6:66)
Following Christ, walking with Him, and loving God with all
your heart does not grant you the privilege of being part of God’s family. Cornelius
was such a good man, feared God, prayed, and gave offerings, yet was lost. He was
unaware that he faced eternity separated from the God he loved because no one
told him differently. Then God sent Peter, who shared the good news of Jesus’ death,
burial, and resurrection. Cornelius and his family trusted Jesus as Savior and
Lord, and God welcomed them into His family (Acts 10:1–48).
The many disciples who followed Jesus and tuned back were merely
listeners following a teacher out of curiosity. But when The Teacher revealed
their selfish motives, they were unwilling to accept He was the Messiah and chose
to no longer walk with Him. One becomes a true Christ-following-believer by confession
of their sins, asking God for forgiveness and cleansing by the blood of Jesus,
and inviting Jesus to be Lord of their life. Only a personal relationship with Jesus
Christ ushers you into the family of God.
