The beautiful sunset screensaver that settled on the paused screen reminded me of God’s creation and His greatness: God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit—the great Three-in-One and the only true living God. His greatness reminded me of this season we celebrate: Christmas, the birth of His Son. God loves this sinful world so much that He came to Earth wrapped in human flesh and born of a virgin girl, and chose to dwell among us: Emmanuel—God with us. My mind cannot comprehend such love.
The triune God said in Genesis 1:26-27:
“Let
Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness…”
“So
God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and
female created He them.”
God made humanity in His image, yet John 4:24 tells us that God is
a Spirit. We cannot see the invisible God, and we have no renderings of what
Jesus looked like, so we know that He didn’t create us to “look” like Him or
His Son.
The Creator of all made us to be loving, compassionate, kind,
forgiving, long-suffering, and all of the other attributes of Christlikeness. People
living during Jesus’ lifetime on Earth saw and experienced Him and the works
His Father sent Him to accomplish. It is in the likeness of our Triune God that
He made us: He wants us to live like His holy Son, Jesus.
God the Son stepped down from the glorious realms of Heaven and
came to Earth to save us from perishing in the sins that separated us from God
the Father. Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, is worthy of celebration more
than just on December 25th. His coming, dying on the cross to save
us from our sins, and dwelling within those who invite Him into their hearts are
praiseworthy every day of every year.
Celebrate Jesus, the Lord God and Savior, who gave His all for you
and the world as you tell others, “Merry Christmas” this year.
